A sweet little toadstool to hang in your window that will add a quirky touch to your home.
These cute little fungi are made using traditional stained glass techniques which have changed very little since early medieval times. I design each piece and produce a working drawing which is called a cartoon. From this a cutline is made which is a guide for cutting each piece of glass. The majority of the glass I use is mouthblown as this glass has a vibrancy and interest to it due to the occasional air bubbles and markings in the glass which create a liveliness. This glass is brought in sheets and is cut down to size following the cut line. Any detailed work is now hand painted onto the glass and fired in my kiln to fuse the paint to the glass for permanence. Sometimes there may be multiply firings. The glass pieces are then leaded up in lengths of lead and soldered together to fix in place. Leaded light cement is then brushed into the gap between the glass and lead and finally, when dry is cut back and cleaned off and the panel is polished.
The photos show the panel in daylight and on a lightbox. I try to show colours as accurately as possible but please be aware that photographing glass is very hard.
Dimensions: approx 9cm x 7cm
Please be aware that due to the lead, children should not handle the panel and hands should be washed after handling.
