A beautiful stained glass art panel depicting hares which are one of my favourite animals and I am very lucky to be able to see them quite often on my walks in the countryside that surround where I work. They really do have an air of magic about them and are a favourite subject of mine.

These hares are influenced by an ancient symbol of three hares sharing three ears although each hare has two ears!

The oldest example of this design has been found in cave temples in China, dating from the 6th and 7th Century and apparently it also crops up in Iran, Egypt, Syria, Hungary, Poland, Switzerland and Germany.

This panel has been made using a variety of traditional mouthblown glass, including beautiful streaky glass carefully selected, cut to shape and then hand painted with glass paint, which once fired in my kiln ensures the designs permanence. This piece has had multiply firings to create the bold lines, shadows and textures. The glass is then leaded up and the joints soldered. Lastly leaded light cement is brushed into the leads and when nearly dry is cut back, cleaned and the panel polished before copper loops are added so the panel may be hung.

Dimensions: 36cm diameter

Please be aware that due to the lead, children should not handle the panel and hands should be washed after handling.
